This home is a quite new development by a large lake. Located within one of the last undeveloped parcels of land on Lake Minnetonka, Locust Hills, this new home blends an old-world aesthetic with materials and a color pallet derived from the client’s native state of Pennsylvania and incorporates several exterior living spaces to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The client wanted to achieve a sense of permanence and look as if the house had been there for a hundred years and thanks to such chose of materials the architect managed to give a life to this idea. {via}

Cool Courtyard Design

Everybody wants some cool place in their house where they could spent some time when the weather is good. This cool courtyard is such place. A former seeping hillside with poor drainage and awkward pathways was transformed into a cohesive urban oasis during its design. New walkways circumscribe the primary outdoor living space while providing direct access from the garage and alley to the mudroom and kitchen. Privacy was achieved by an architectural concrete wall that fortifies the separation from the alley and hides a new parking space while a heavy timber trellis buffers the garage. Located in an established neighborhood in the South-West Suburbs of Minneapolis, this home streamlines the forms of East-cost shingle style architecture, but stays true to its historical color and material pallets. It has a quite tradition exterior and interior design elements but the open floor plan was developed to allow owners to have contemporary living and entertaining lifestyle. The plan also promotes beautiful views and open circulation to the outdoors. Like most traditional house designs there is the touch of the luxury in the interior design. This home, located on a narrow finger of land perched above a deep valley. The expansive views and exposure of a ridge top site, the quiet, contemplative shade of a redwood forest, the urbanity of a modern city residence, and the quiet of a wilderness are things that describe this work. A glimpsed view through the curved walls of the breezeway, on to the pool and the hills beyond starts from the driveway to the house. The front door of fluted glass starts to show the 5 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, 6070 square feet house for all its guests. Its east part includes all public areas like the kitchen, living room and dining room. Private areas are located in the west part of the house with bedrooms oriented to the canyon, and the family room looking onto the pool and outdoor living areas. {via}

Curved House Design with Extensive Interior Woodwork

The neighborhood of this house is characterized by rolling topography on wooded peninsulas separated by salt water bays and coves. The house’s design adopts this land and promotes dramatic water and woods views. The exterior is curved and stone terraces and planters follow this curve and mediate between the house and the landscape. Architectural and natural forms were used in an ornamentation program that included both the interior and exterior. The shape of the two-story front porch and its gambrel roof is a motif that is repeated at different scales and proportions and in many different materials. {via}
